Lawyer Azhar Adil, who represented the prosecution in the Yana Legkodimova homicide case, faced a shocking fabrication overnight when a post announcing her death appeared on her own Facebook page, Orda.kz reports.
According to Adil, the post was published by a “non-existent sister,” and the false information quickly spread across social media.
My daughter woke me up. In the middle of the night, a barrage of calls, hundreds of messages, tears, panic. People who love me saw on my page that I died… You, who did this, have completely lost everything that makes a person human. You cannot understand the hell you unleashed on my loved ones with just one click,
Adil wrote.
Dina Tansari, founder of the NeMolchi foundation, shared the incident and publicly supported the lawyer.
Azhar Adil worked on the high-profile homicide case of 23-year-old Yana Legkodimova in Atyrau. A few days ago, Judge Zarema Khamidullina concluded the case by sentencing both defendants to life imprisonment, a decision that prompted applause in the courtroom.
Adil has also handled cases involving the sexual assault of a disabled man in Aqtau and the homicide of Valeria Shalnova in the Mangystau Region.
According to the lawyer, the scammers may have attempted to raise money under her name, but their plan failed because her page has no phone number. However, social media users believe the perpetrators may not be “ordinary” cyber scammers.
Some suggest the fake post is connected to the verdict in the Legkodimova case.
Activist Dina Tansari has contacted the Aqtau police in hopes they will take action.
