WSJ: Trump Chose a Moderate Sanctions Option Against Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump selected a “medium-strength” package of sanctions against Russia from three proposed options, Orda.kz reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
According to WSJ's sources, the harshest option targeted Russia’s industrial sector and senior leadership, while the moderate version focused on the energy sector. The softest proposal included only “limited measures,” though details were not specified.
Reportedly, the different sanction packages had been prepared months in advance. Trump’s patience is said to have “run out” when he concluded that Vladimir Putin was “deceiving him” while continuing attacks on Ukraine.
A few hours after Trump canceled his planned meeting with Putin in Budapest, Russian forces once again struck Ukrainian cities, including a nursery building in Kyiv.
Unnamed administration officials told WSJ that the U.S. president did not publicly comment on the strikes, but they caused visible irritation.
