In a recent interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff discussed ongoing negotiations concerning the Ukraine conflict, Orda reports.
He highlighted that while specific details remain under discussion, both sides have initiated talks. Witkoff noted that Ukraine and Russia have been targeting each other's naval assets, and efforts are underway to address this issue in the coming week.
Witkoff also mentioned that Russia has set specific conditions for a comprehensive ceasefire, acknowledging the situation's complexity.
This development follows a March 18 phone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which Trump proposed a 30-day halt on attacks targeting energy infrastructure.
Putin agreed to this limited ceasefire but did not commit to a broader cessation of hostilities, citing concerns over enforcement and Ukraine's compliance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed support for temporarily suspending strikes on energy infrastructure but emphasized the need for continued international pressure on Russia through sanctions and defense support.
Further discussions are anticipated, with senior U.S. officials scheduled to meet Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia to explore avenues for a more comprehensive ceasefire.
