The wife of paramedic Azamat Asylbekov, who died in a fight, has spoken out, expressing outrage at the investigation and questioning the court’s decisions, Orda.kz reports.
According to widow Aziza Arkenova, some young men from the Zhumysker neighborhood suspected of involvement in the shooting initially hid from police. Though they were later detained, court rulings on their custody have been inconsistent.
On September 3, Judge Gulzhiyan Mutieva ordered all suspects to be remanded, but a few days later, the decision was reversed. One suspect was re-arrested on September 9, only to be released under house arrest on September 12.
How does this happen? First, the judge makes a decision to detain someone, and then she herself overturns it. Is that fair? the widow asked.
Relatives of the deceased insist court rulings are inconsistent:
The judge does what he wants. Some detainees are placed in isolation, while others, even if there are serious suspicions, are released under house arrest. Although, if it's a case of a group crime, everyone should be held accountable together.
Arkenova claims delays are linked to the suspects’ influential relatives, some of whom are current or former police officers:
Among them is a district police officer, a former captain, and a lieutenant. Doesn't this have any impact? While ordinary people sit in jail, others have protectors. This is precisely why the investigation is stalled.
The victim’s family also notes that not all participants in the conflict have been apprehended, and not all weapons have been recovered.
Where did all those weapons go? Why are some of the detainees giving the police false locations? Doesn't the court understand that by letting a suspect go home, he could pass information on to those still in hiding? the widow said.
She emphasized that her husband had never been involved in fights and was an accidental victim:
"I'm left alone with an unborn child. I want only one thing — a fair investigation and punishment for those responsible."
Orda.kz attempted to obtain a comment from the regional court but received no response.
