A remembrance event for victims of political repression and famine took place in the Qaragaily park square near the memorial site, Orda.kz reports.

People arrived throughout the morning, bringing flowers, taking photos, and engaging in quiet conversations. The gathering was informal, with no official speeches.

One attendee brought three portraits, including one of poet and dissident Aron Atabek.
Representatives of the Aq Jol party were also present and recited a prayer at the memorial.

Compared to the previous year, the turnout was smaller. Last year's event saw more participants and featured vocal activists making strong statements. This time, fewer than 30 people were present at any one time.
Some attendees expressed disappointment at the low turnout and questioned why more civic activists had not joined the commemoration. Frustration was voiced over what was seen as apathy in modern society.

While some stayed for the full duration of the event, others left shortly after laying flowers.
