KazTag reports that a Kazakh official is suspected of accepting a $78,000 bribe, allegedly used to pay for his son’s education and housing in the United Kingdom, Orda.kz writes.
While official comments are still pending, sources have identified the official as Satzhan Ablaliyev.
According to preliminary reports, the money may have been given in exchange for favorable treatment of companies overseeing technical inspections of nationally significant road construction projects. The case is believed to be handled by the capital's branch of the newly formed anti-corruption service, established after the KNB absorbed the former Antikor agency.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement.
