The Uzbek government plans to lay off more than 2,000 officials as part of efforts to digitize the state apparatus, Orda.kz reports.
According to a decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the staff reductions will continue until November 1, 2025. The tax, water, and agricultural sectors will see the most significant cuts.
A total of 2,141 management positions in the executive branch will be eliminated. The largest reductions will occur in the Tax Committee (498 positions), the Ministry of Water Resources (224), the Ministry of Agriculture (200), and the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction (163). The Ministries of Ecology (176) and Justice (197) will also be affected,
the order states.
Dismissed employees will receive assistance in finding new jobs, coordinated by the Ministry of Employment and the Federation of Trade Unions.
This is Uzbekistan’s second major downsizing of the government in recent years. In 2024, nearly 3,000 officials were dismissed under an administrative reform, which also included the reorganization and liquidation of several agencies.
