Uzbekistan aims to start constructing the Trans-Afghan railway connecting Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in 2025, announced Transport Minister Ilhom Makhkamov, reports Orda, citing Gazeta.uz.
On February 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received reports on significant transport infrastructure projects, including updates on the Trans-Afghan railway. The project extends an 80-kilometer section through Afghanistan to reach Pakistani and Iranian ports.
Makhkamov, speaking to the Uzbekistan 24 channel, noted that the Uzbek President was briefed on the selected route and ongoing work with project donors.
This initiative follows the recent launch of construction on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
