Uzbekistan: Liability for Financing Mass Unrest Proposed

Uzbekistan plans to introduce criminal liability for undergoing training to organize mass riots and their financing, Orda reports, citing Gazeta.uz.
Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber Deputies approved the bill, developed considering Russia and Belarus's experience. One voted against it.
Gazeta.uz reports that current legislation provides criminal liability for organizing mass riots, active participation in them, and using violence against citizens; thus, the proposed amendments to Article 244 in the nation's criminal code.
In particular, the training referred to aims to organize mass riots and study handling weapons, explosive devices, explosives, poisonous, and other substances and dangerous objects.
A heavy fine, up to three years of correctional labor, or imprisonment for five to seven years are envisaged.
