New Uranium Plant Launched in Turkistan Region with French Partnership

A new uranium processing plant was officially launched on July 3 in the Sozaq district of Kazakhstan’s Turkistan region, Orda.kz reports. The facility was built at the South Tortquduq deposit with the participation of the French company KATCO.
The plant has an annual processing capacity of up to 2,000 tons of uranium. Its construction took three years and involved an investment of 74.7 billion tenge.
The launch of the processing plant at the South Tortquduq site is a significant milestone for Kazakhstan’s nuclear sector. This development further strengthens Kazatomprom’s position as a global leader in uranium mining, said Meirzhan Yusupov, head of the national company Kazatomprom.
