Uzbekistan and Russia held a roundtable in Tashkent to discuss measures aimed at improving migration policy and easing tensions surrounding the issue, Orda.kz reports, citing Gazeta.uz.
During the meeting, the Uzbek side raised concerns about the difficulties faced by migrants in Russia. These include long queues at airports, phone checks, raids that often involve degrading treatment, and a rise in anti-migrant rhetoric.
The Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for joint monitoring of violations and accountability for the use of disproportionate force.
Among Uzbekistan’s proposals were the establishment of a pre-migration training center in Tashkent, the opening of Russian-language exam sites in Jizzakh and Andijan, and the simplification of exam requirements.
Both sides agreed that migration is important for both countries and requires transparent, predictable rules.
