Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan signed a trilateral framework agreement in Kabul on Thursday for the development of a feasibility study for the Trans-Afghan Railway project, Orda.kz reports, citing Gazeta.uz.
The document was signed by the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, the Minister of Public Works of Afghanistan, and the Minister of Railways of Pakistan in the presence of the foreign ministers of the three countries.
The first trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan marks a historic step forward in strengthening mutual trust, good neighborliness, and regional cooperation, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov wrote on his Telegram channel.
The "Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan" railway project was described as strategically important for all of Eurasia.
According to Saidov, "This corridor will enhance trade, support Afghanistan’s economic recovery, and open new routes to global markets through southern ports."
Uzbekistan also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening trade ties and expanding cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, the textile industry, and construction.
The country also aims to increase the capacity of the Termez International Trade Center, Saidov added.
