This past weekend, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine on Independence Day, Orda.kz reports.
Zelenskyy published the congratulatory letter from his Uzbek counterpart on X.
I sincerely congratulate you and all the people of Ukraine on the national holiday — Independence Day. I am convinced that the relations between our countries, based on traditional friendship and principles of long-term cooperation, will continue to develop in the interests of our peoples,
the message reads.
Mirziyoyev also wished Zelenskyy good health and success, and Ukrainians peace and prosperity.
Zelenskyy responded with gratitude:
“I appreciate your position on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and humanitarian initiatives for the recreation of Ukrainian children in Uzbekistan.”
On August 24, Kazakhstan’s President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev also sent a congratulatory telegram to Zelenskyy. Two weeks earlier, the two leaders had discussed possible paths to a peaceful resolution and the complexity of territorial issues over the phone.
Political scientist Arkady Dubnov highlighted Toqayev’s gesture as especially significant, noting he was one of the few CIS leaders to personally congratulate Zelenskyy.
