A report about the disappearance of two residents of the village of Aygyr-Zhal in the Chatkal district was filed with law enforcement on August 25. A few days later, at a meeting of border representatives, the Uzbek side informed about the incident.
According to their account, the two Kyrgyz citizens did not obey orders and attempted to escape, after which border guards fired at them. Both sustained fatal injuries.
On August 31, the relatives of the missing men traveled to Uzbekistan, where they identified the deceased. The next day, the bodies were handed over to the Kyrgyz side through the Baymak border checkpoint.
The heads of the border services of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan agreed to launch a joint investigation. Uzbekistan also expressed readiness to return the property of the deceased — three horses and a tent.
