US Vice President JD Vance gave a wide-ranging interview to The Wall Street Journal ahead of his appearance at the Munich Security Conference, outlining key positions on Russia, Ukraine, and European politics, Orda reports.
Regarding Ukraine, Vance stated that the Trump administration would try to convince Putin that Russia stands to gain more through negotiations than continued military action.
He also mentioned that "deploying American troops to Ukraine remains an option" if diplomatic efforts fail.
The Vice President considered it "too early" to discuss specific territorial arrangements or Western security guarantees for Kyiv.
Vance emphasized the importance of "resetting" relations with Russia following any successful Ukraine agreement, arguing that Moscow's current isolation from Western markets has pushed it into becoming Beijing's junior partner.
Vance also suggested German politicians should work with all parties, including the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). He argued that excluding anti-immigration parties from coalition governments "nullifies the will" of voters who demand stronger border controls.
The Vice President also downplayed concerns about Russian interference in democratic processes, stating that both the US and Europe have "exaggerated" this threat.
Instead, he identified the "failure to control migration" as a more significant challenge to democracy.
