The U.S. Department of State has confirmed that President Donald Trump’s administration supports lifting sanctions on Syria imposed under the Caesar Act, Orda.kz reports, citing Reuters.

A spokesperson said the proposal is part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) currently being debated by Congress.

The United States remains in regular contact with its partners in the region and welcomes any investment or engagement in Syria that offers all Syrians the opportunity to build a peaceful and prosperous nation,
 the spokesperson said.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has also urged Congress to fully and permanently repeal the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act of 2019.

On October 10, the U.S. Senate voted in favor of a provision within the defense budget bill calling for the repeal of the Caesar Act. The measure still requires approval from the House of Representatives and President Donald Trump’s signature before becoming law.
