The American president announced plans to reach an agreement with Ukraine under which Washington would provide military and technological support in exchange for supplies of rare earth metals and other resources, reports Orda.kz, citing AP.
He shared this during a conversation with journalists at the White House.
He claims the deal would benefit both sides: the US would receive necessary materials while Ukraine would get military aid.
However, The Kyiv Independent writes a source in the President's Office familiar with the matter said sharing Ukrainian resources with allies was part of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's "victory plan" shown to foreign leaders, including Trump.
Meanwhile, Trump claimed that "significant progress" had been made in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He did not provide any details.
Incidentally, one of Trump's first executive orders after the inauguration was a directive to suspend all foreign aid for 90 days.
Reuters reported that weapons shipments had been briefly paused but resumed after an internal discussion among the Trump administration. Discussions reportedly continue over the future of U.S. weapons support.
On January 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the aid freeze would not impact Ukraine's military assistance.
