U.S. authorities are reportedly considering a special incentive group aimed at encouraging nations like Kazakhstan to more strictly adhere to international sanctions on Russia, Orda.kz reports.
According to Reuters, unnamed U.S. officials are proposing the creation of an interagency group to develop these incentives, though details remain unclear.
“Kazakhstan, like other post‑Soviet countries, has been used to circumvent some of Russia’s import restrictions since Moscow launched a full‑scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022,” the Reuters source added.
The Kazakh embassy in Washington has not responded to requests for comment, according to Reuters.
Reuters also reported that the Trump administration disbanded an interagency group earlier formed to devise pressure strategies against Russia. Officials cited a loss of momentum and President Trump's waning interest in peace talks.
