U.S. Lifts Sanctions on Belavia After Trump’s Call With Lukashenko

The United States has lifted sanctions on the Belarusian state airline Belavia following a conversation between Donald Trump and Alexander Lukashenko, Orda.kz reports, citing The Insider.
U.S. Special Representative John Cole announced the decision during a visit to Minsk, according to a video released by Lukashenko’s office.
Lukashenko also said he had released 52 prisoners.
Among those released is Former Belarusian presidential candidate in 2010, Nikolai Statkevich, along with philosopher Vladimir Matskevich, according to Novaya Gazeta.
In 2021, a court sentenced Statkevich to 14 years in prison. Other defendants in the case included politician Sergei Tikhanovsky, author of the Telegram channel “Belarus of the Brain”, Igor Losik, author of the YouTube channel MozgON, Vladimir Tsyganovich, cameraman for “A Country for Life”, Artem Sakov, and social media moderator for that same project, Dmitry Popov.
Among those released were also 6 Lithuanians.
