More than twenty residents of Aqtau who introduced themselves as unemployed gathered near the building of the Mangystau Region Akimat. They recorded a video message addressed to President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev, Orda.kz reports.
The participants in the protest said they cannot find permanent work.
They claim that they have been registered at the Employment Center for months and even years, but the available vacancies are either low-paying or do not correspond to their profession. Because of this, the unemployed are demanding to be employed at major enterprises in the city — KazTransOil, MAEK, Aqtau Sea Port, and Caspi Bitum.
We demand that our candidates for vacancies be employed at these enterprises. Qasym-Jomart Kemelovich, we are forced to turn to you because there is no other way out. We ask you to intervene in the situation,
the men said.
Earlier, Mangystau Akim Nurdaulet Kilybay stated that local residents do not want to work for 500,000 tenge and are demanding higher salaries. According to the official, there are 21,000 registered unemployed in the region, and most of them want to work exclusively in the oil sector.
Overall, the number of unemployed in Kazakhstan has increased by 20,700 people. By this indicator, the country ranks first among the EAEU member states.
