The UN Green Climate Fund will provide Kazakhstan with approximately $280 million for environmental initiatives. This was announced by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev during parliamentary hearings on the implementation of best available techniques (BAT), Orda.kzreports.
With the support of international organizations, Kazakhstan is expected to receive about $280 million from the UN Green Climate Fund. These funds will be directed toward the development of renewable energy sources, the promotion of low-carbon technologies in the industrial sector, and support for electric vehicle development,
Nyssanbayev stated.
The Minister noted that a dedicated program for promoting green projects was developed back in 2024.
It includes seven projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector, improving the resilience of centralized water supply systems in rural areas, modernizing livestock farms, and supporting private sector initiatives in green finance,
he added.
The total budget for these seven projects exceeds $1 billion, with $630 million expected from the UN fund.
Under the joint program of the fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), support is planned for the construction of 11 renewable energy facilities in Kazakhstan with a combined capacity of 330 MW.
Nine subprojects — including solar and wind power stations—have already been financed. They are expected to be completed by 2027.
