The Verkhovna Rada has successfully extended Vladimir Zelenskyy's powers as President of Ukraine on its second attempt after failing to achieve a quorum initially, Orda reports, citing Ukranska Pravda.
The resolution to support democracy in Ukraine received 268 votes in favor, with 12 deputies not voting. There were no abstentions or votes against.
According to the document, it is currently impossible to hold free, transparent, and democratic elections in Ukraine due to the war.
The Verkhovna Rada, speaking on behalf of Ukrainians, declares that presidential elections will be held once a "comprehensive, fair, and sustainable peace" is ensured.
The document states that Vladimir Zelenskyy was elected President of Ukraine in free, transparent, and democratic elections.
The deputies emphasize that neither the people nor the Verkhovna Rada question the mandate of the current head of state.
Additionally, the resolution notes that according to the Constitution of Ukraine, Zelenskyy must continue to fulfill his duties until a new president takes office.
