Ukrainian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Viktor Mayko discussed this in an interview with Journal Exclusive, reports Orda.kz.
In early July, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the creation of new departments and directorates, including a division responsible for Central Asian countries.
“Central Asia will be placed under separate management, which indicates special attention,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
An interview with Ambassador Viktor Mayko was published the day before on the YouTube channel Journal Exclusive. The diplomat said one of the main goals of the new department is to restore full political dialogue between Ukraine and the Central Asian states.
The political dialogue must be restored in full. That is, we must reach at least the level of political communication of 2020–2021. I think that we must move forward if we have a normal political dialogue, Mayko said.
According to him, Kazakhstan will receive particular focus.
“Of course, Kazakhstan is a key country. And due to its political weight, and economic weight, and, in general, the established relations with all other countries in the region and outside the region,” the ambassador added.
Mayko also recalled the telephone conversation in early August between Qasym-Jomart Toqayev and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting the symbolism of the fact that the call took place on the day of Abai’s 180th anniversary.
Viktor Mayko was appointed Ukraine’s ambassador to Kazakhstan in April of this year and officially took office in July. The position had been vacant for two and a half years after the resignation of Pyotr Vrublevsky.
