Türkiye and Turkmenistan have reportedly signed a new natural gas supply agreement between BOTAŞ and Türkmengaz, which will enable Turkmen gas supplies to Türkiye, Orda reports, citing Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar's "X."
The agreement represents a concrete outcome of the memorandum of understanding signed in Antalya last March in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chair of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
According to the terms of the agreement, gas flow is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2025.
The long-negotiated deal aims to strengthen natural gas supply security for both Türkiye and the region while advancing strategic cooperation between the two countries.
2 billion cubic meters are projected to be the amount set for a swap, but specific details were not disclosed.
The gas is expected to flow through Iran's existing natural gas network.
