The Turkish envoy for normalization, former ambassador to the U.S. Serdar Kılıç, has arrived in Armenia, according to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan, Orda.kz reports, citing NewsAm.
Special Representative for the normalization of relations with Türkiye Ruben Rubinyan welcomed Serdar Kılıç at the Armenia-Türkiye border near the Margara checkpoint, Badalyan said.
Talks are expected to cover steps toward reopening borders, restoring the Kars-Gyumri railway, and establishing diplomatic ties.
Armenia and Türkiye have had no diplomatic relations since 1991, and the border has been closed since 1993. Efforts to normalize ties resumed in 2021 with the appointment of special envoys.
Both nations have recently been making visible efforts to improve ties; one notable case is Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan's historic visit to Türkiye.
