U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to send additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, citing a breakdown in ceasefire negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Orda.kz reports, citing Reuters.
The move is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses against ongoing missile attacks. Trump did not specify how many Patriot systems would be delivered.
We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need, because Putin really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening. But there’s a little bit of a problem there. I don’t like it,
Trump told reporters.
According to Reuters, the U.S. President has become disillusioned with attempts to broker a truce between Kyiv and Moscow.
We did not specify the number of Patriots we plan to send to Ukraine, but the United States would be reimbursed for their cost by the European Union, Trump said.
In the coming days, he is expected to unveil a new package of offensive weapons for Ukraine. Trump also said Ukraine would receive “very high-tech" military equipment:
We basically are going to send them various pieces of very sophisticated military equipment. They are going to pay us 100% for that, and that’s the way we want it.
