Shortly after the call, Trump posted on Truth Social, describing his discussion with Zelenskyy as "very good."
White House Confirms ‘Great Progress’
At a White House press briefing, Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt described the conversation as "fantastic," stating that the two sides had made "great progress" toward ending the war.
Key points from the Trump-Zelenskyy call:
- Ukraine requested additional air defense systems to protect civilians; Trump pledged to help secure them from Europe
- The US will continue providing defensive intelligence to Ukraine
- The mineral deal is no longer a priority for the administration; focus has shifted to a long-term peace agreement
- Trump suggested that the best way to protect Ukraine’s infrastructure is by transferring Ukraine’s energy facilities to US ownership
- Technical teams from both sides will meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days for further negotiations
Meanwhile, in a joint statement from Rubio and Waltz, the US confirmed that a partial ceasefire on energy infrastructure had been agreed upon.
The statement also noted that Zelenskyy began the call by thanking Trump for continued US support, including Javelin anti-tank missiles and peace efforts.
Zelenskyy later posted on X, calling the discussion "positive," "frank," and "very meaningful."
