The U.S. President and the Ukrainian leader held a short meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Orda.kz reports.
It was their fifth conversation since Trump's election and lasted about seven minutes. Asked by reporters if he still trusted Vladimir Putin, Trump replied that he would be able to answer within a month.
He also said NATO countries should respond to violations of their airspace by Russian aircraft, including shooting them down.
During the discussion, Trump acknowledged Russia's significant military capabilities but noted its economy was in "terrible" condition due to the war.
On security guarantees for Ukraine, he said it was too early to give a clear answer:
The war is still going on, and that's not good for Russia. It was supposed to be quick, so Russia doesn't look particularly remarkable after spending three and a half years on it, right? Three and a half years of very hard fighting, and it looks like it won't end for a long time.
Later, in a Truth Social post, Trump argued that Ukraine, with EU and NATO support, is capable of regaining all its occupied territories:
Earlier, Trump criticized NATO during his address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and made several high-profile statements.
