Former Deputy Head of Shymkent's Anti-Corruption Service Department Daurenbek Kozhabayev will appear before a court on January 31, 2025, Orda.kz reports.
According to investigators, the former official accepted a bribe from a school director to evade criminal liability.
The charges under Article 366, Part 4 of the Criminal Code allude to their being a bribe of a particularly large scale.
Kozhabayev evaded law enforcement for six months.
After the Anti-Corruption Agency offered a reward for information about his whereabouts in July 2024, he was finally apprehended in a Turkestan region village.
The accused is the younger brother of Maksat Kozhabayev, former Deputy Chair of the Anti-Corruption Agency, who was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for fraud in November 2023.
Court documents show that Daurenbek Kozhabayev's sister, Yelmira Kozhabayeva, director of the Abu Ali Ibn Sina Higher College in Turkestan region, will serve as his public defender.
