Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek has commented on the death of a first-year KazNU student in Almaty, Orda.kz reports.
At the end of July, the student jumped from the 14th floor of the university’s rectorate building. Earlier reports suggested she may have taken this step because she could not afford to pay for her studies.
Commenting on the incident, Nurbek stressed that the investigation is ongoing.
The only thing I can say before a court decision is that this is more of a family tragedy. Now, according to my information, a case has been opened under the article ‘Driving to suicide.’ This is not connected with the university or the educational process. It is an internal family tragedy. Official information will be provided soon, Nurbek said at a press conference.
