Today, Aqorda noted that the Kazakh leader would be the first speaker at the COP 29 session in Azerbaijan, where the climate summit is being held under the auspices of the UN.
Qasym-Jomart Toqayev noted that Kazakhstan intends to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, an attainable goal.
The President of Kazakhstan also stressed that special attention should now be paid to regions vulnerable to climate change and landlocked developing countries. This requires access to predictable financing and technology.
Central Asia accounts for only 1% of global emissions, but the region faces numerous climate risks. We must actively use advanced technologies - AI, satellite monitoring, other digital tools - to effectively manage water and land resources, Toqayev said.
The President said the second noteworthy point is the transition to sustainable agriculture.
Qasym-Jomart Toqayev highlighted agricultural production, focusing on soil quality and emission minimization. He invited summit participants to study Kazakhstan's potential, a country with 200 million hectares of farmland.
Toqayev also discussed constructing the nuclear power plant:
Our country provides 43% of the world's uranium supplies and plays a significant role in the development of low-carbon nuclear energy. In October, citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan supported the construction of a nuclear power plant in a referendum. We strive to make this project efficient and safe through partnership with global technology leaders.
Toqayev also focused on global water resources and threats to the Caspian Sea.
He called saving the largest lake in the world a common cause for all summit participants. Kazakhstan plans to discuss the water agenda with France, and for this purpose, the One Water Summit is scheduled for December.
Our President thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for organizing the COP 29 climate summit.
