Two assaults on medical workers in Kazakhstan have sparked a response from the country’s leadership, Orda.kz reports.
Presidential press secretary Ruslan Zheldibay announced that President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has backed proposals to increase penalties for violence against healthcare professionals:
“The President instructed the government to develop relevant amendments to the legislation, which will be submitted to parliament for discussion with the participation of representatives of civil society,”
The move follows two incidents last week. In Qostanay, a patient struck a surgeon so hard that the doctor ended up in a coma. In Qaraganda, a man attacked a nurse at a clinic.
