President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev chaired a meeting on macroeconomic stability that focused on curbing inflation and raising household incomes, Orda.kz reports.
According to Aqorda, the meeting was attended by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, National Bank Chair Timur Suleimenov, representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, and the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms.
Also present were Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin and the former Almaty akim, Yerbolat Dosayev, who was recently appointed to the Presidential Administration.
At the meeting, issues of strengthening macroeconomic stability, improving citizens’ well-being, and measures to reduce inflation were discussed. The head of state emphasized the need to move from quantitative indicators of growth to qualitative reforms aimed at increasing public income, Aqorda reported.
Toqayev stressed that sustainable economic development requires coordinated action by all government bodies — an apparent reference to the inconsistent policies of the National Bank and the government in addressing inflation.
The meeting took place amid rising inflation, negative forecasts, and expectations of tighter monetary policy.
Despite overall economic growth, real incomes in Kazakhstan continue to decline, which the president described as a cause for concern.
Additionally, Toqayev ordered the creation of a working group on parliamentary reform. The group will include representatives of the Majilis and Senate, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, and leaders of political party factions in parliament.
According to Aqorda, it will also feature heads of research institutes, prominent legal scholars who have contributed to Kazakhstan’s legal system, experts, and members of the National Qurultay. Specific names have not yet been disclosed.
In his address to the nation last month, Toqayev proposed abolishing the Senate — a move that, if implemented, would mark a significant reform in recent years.
