President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has congratulated workers in Kazakhstan’s water management sector on their professional holiday, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation and sustainable water use, Orda.kz reports.
In his statement, Toqayev noted that effective collaboration with neighboring countries remains key to developing an integrated water management system for transboundary river basins.
The President also pointed to ongoing efforts to protect key water bodies, including the Caspian Sea and Lake Balkhash.
For many years, work has continued in the country to restore the Small Aral Sea. Thanks to the efforts of specialists, the sea is gradually returning, and its area is once again being filled with water. It is necessary to take concrete measures to preserve the Caspian Sea, Lake Balkhash, and other water sources,
Toqayev said.
In April, the President signed a new Water Code aimed at introducing updated conservation mechanisms and better protection of water resources.
The legislation also introduces the concept of “water security” into Kazakhstan’s legal framework.
