President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev met with Alikhan Smailov, Chair of the Supreme Audit Chamber (SAP), who reported that auditors examined public spending worth 20 trillion tenge in the first half of 2025 — a sevenfold increase compared to the same period in 2024, Orda.kz reports.
The audits covered major sectors including education, healthcare (with a focus on medication provision), digital development, energy, and elite sports. Following the inspections, authorities issued over 60 recommendations and 450 formal orders. Twenty violations were forwarded to law enforcement.
Smailov added that, under a presidential directive, the Chamber's authority was expanded to include extra-budgetary funds. Changes to oversight of the National Fund’s disbursements were also introduced to boost transparency.
Other initiatives include stricter accountability for heating providers ahead of winter and broader price controls on gas.
Toqayev instructed officials to continue enhancing the state audit system, emphasizing greater transparency, reduced misuse of funds, and better returns from national resources. He also stressed the importance of digitalization in public finance management.
