Toqayev Awards Order of Otan to Kuanysh Sultanov

Qasym-Jomart Toqayev, by decree, awarded the Order of Otan to Kuanysh Sultanov, the first ideologist of independent Kazakhstan, reports Orda.kz, citing Aqorda.
According to the decree signed on May 8, Kuanysh Sultanov was awarded one of the highest state awards “for special merits in state and public activities.”
Kuanysh Sultanov is a well-known Kazakh politician, journalist, and professor. He was the first Minister of Information of independent Kazakhstan and largely determined the ideology of the political regime of Nursultan Nazarbayev.
At the dawn of independence, from 1991 to 1993, Sultanov was responsible for forming the country's information space.
He later became vice-premier, deputy chair of the Supreme Council, ambassador of Kazakhstan to China, and member of the Senate. Kuanysh Sultanov is a doctor of political science and a professor. He is recognized as an honored figure of Kazakhstan, as well as an honored journalist and an honored figure of the diplomatic service.
After Nursultan Nazarbayev left politics, Kuanysh Sultanov maintained ties with the first President.
In 2022, he and other "old guard" representatives participated in the opening of the largest mosque in Central Asia, built in Astana.
Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has previously noted Kuanysh Sultanov's outstanding services to Kazakhstan. In 2023, the President named him among those whose activities for the country's benefit should be given a "worthy and fair assessment."
