Toqayev Assigns New Personnel to Armed Forces Command
The President signed orders on personnel changes in the Armed Forces, Orda.kz reports.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces Asan Zhusupov and Commander-in-Chief of the Troops of the South Regional Command Kuanyshbek Ushtayev have been relieved of their posts.
New personnel have been appointed to the key posts.
Mereke Kuchekbayev has become Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces. Yerzhan Ibrayev, who left his previous position, has been entrusted with leading the troops of the regional command "South."
Mereke Kuchekbayev began his military career at the Alma-Ata Military School and studied at the National Defense University and the Academy of the General Staff of Russia. During his career, he led military units, commanded airborne assault troops, and participated in combat training.
In November 2023, he was appointed First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces. He was awarded the Danq and Aibyn orders of the 2nd degree and medals.
Born in 1978 in Semey, Yerzhan Ibrayev graduated from the Almaty Higher Military School in 1995, the National Defense University in 2009, and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation in 2020.
During his career, he rose from lieutenant to colonel, holding positions from platoon commander to deputy commander of troops.
Since November 2023, he has held the post of commander of the troops of the Astana regional command.
