Toqayev and Orbán Hold Talks Ahead of Informal OTS Summit

Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during his visit to Budapest, Orda.kz reports, citing Aqorda.
Toqayev referred to his official visit to Hungary in November of last year, during which strategic agreements were signed in the fields of trade, economics, and investment.
In 2024, bilateral trade reached approximately $200 million, with a 37% increase recorded in the first quarter of this year. Hungarian investment in Kazakhstan has exceeded $370 million. Currently, 16 joint projects are underway, totaling nearly $700 million, in sectors such as mechanical engineering, agriculture, and logistics.
The Kazakh president also underscored the importance of the upcoming informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States and reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to cooperation across all key areas of the organization’s agenda.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán described Kazakhstan as a regional leader:
I can say not only from scientific assessments, but also from personal experience: Central Asia is one of the fastest growing and most competitive regions in the world, and Kazakhstan is the strongest country in this region. We will not be mistaken if we say that in the next 15–20 years this region and Kazakhstan in particular will become key players in the global economy.
Orbán also emphasized Kazakhstan’s strategic importance to Hungary in the energy sector. He noted that Europe would increasingly rely on energy imports in the near future, and Central Asia, Kazakhstan in particular, would play a vital role.
Therefore, Kazakhstan is a strategic partner of Hungary and all of Europe in matters of energy security of the future,
stated the press service of the Hungarian Prime Minister.
President Toqayev is in Budapest to attend the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States. The event brings together the leaders of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
