The President of Kazakhstan held a telephone conversation with his Kyrgyz counterpart. During the call, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev informed Sadyr Japarov about the upcoming reform, Orda.kz reports
«Kasym-Jomart Tokayev informed the President of the Kyrgyz Republic about the constitutional reform being carried out in our country, which lays the foundations for progressive state development. Sadyr Zhaparov expressed support for the large-scale transformations in the Republic of Kazakhstan,»
According to the press service, the Kazakh leader, in turn, expressed support for Japarov’s decisions «aimed at maintaining social unity and strengthening Kyrgyz statehood.»
The new draft Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan has sparked extensive public debate. We previously reported on concerns raised by journalists, who said the proposed wording poses a direct threat to freedom of speech. They appealed to commission member Snezhana Imasheva, urging that freedom of speech not be restricted.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan has been shaken by a series of high-profile resignations. These reshuffles appear to be more than routine rotation, suggesting preparations for elections and a redistribution of influence within the ruling elite.
