The Georgian Interior Ministry announced the detention of three people in connection with recent clashes near the campaign headquarters of the Tbilisi Mayor, Orda.kz reports, citing NewsGeorgia.
According to investigators, two detainees — Z.M., born in 1965, and I.B., born in 2003 — are accused of group violence. Authorities say they attacked participants of the September 8 anti-government protest, during which more than ten people were injured, including opposition activists, journalists from Publika and Netgazeti, as well as Hungarian freelance reporter László Mecze.
Another suspect, I.D., born in 2002, was taken into custody on charges of property damage. This case relates to the September 9 incident, when protesters splashed red liquid on and defaced election banners of Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who is seeking a third term.
The Interior Ministry added that an investigation is also ongoing into “the use of violence or threats during election campaigning.”
However, no arrests have been made under that article to date.
