The confiscated restaurant Altyn Saf of former Akim Akhmedbek Akhmetzhanov was sold at auction in Qostanay, Orda.kz reports.
In April 2016, the official was sentenced to 13 years in prison for bribery, and his property was seized by the state.
However, just three years later, Akhmetzhanov was released from prison on parole.
Nine years have passed since the verdict in the so-called “Big Akimat Case,” and only now has the restaurant complex on the banks of the Tobol River been sold.
Before the sale, the building was owned by the State Institution “Department of Entrepreneurship and Industrial-Innovative Development of the Qostanay Region Akimat.”
The former Altyn Saf restaurant complex, with a total area of 1,558.4 square meters and located in Qostanay on the Yekaterinburg–Almaty highway, was put up for auction with a starting price of 256.6 million tenge. The first and second tenders failed due to a lack of bidders. The third auction took place on August 22, 2025, and the building was sold for 91.4 million tenge, the Qostanay Region Akimat reported.
The two-story building has long been in poor condition. During last year’s flood, Altyn Saf, like other properties in the coastal area, was flooded. However, this has not deterred the new owner. U
nder the terms of the deal, the owner is obligated to repair or reconstruct the complex within two years. It is still unknown what exactly the building will house.
According to unofficial reports, the former Altyn Saf restaurant may become an exhibition space.
