Tengizchevroil Fined for Excess Emissions

A court in the Atyrau region has fined Tengizchevroil LLP ₸639.6 million for violating environmental regulations, Orda.kz reports.
The company operates the Tengiz oil field, one of Kazakhstan’s largest energy assets.
According to the regional prosecutor’s office, an air quality review revealed that the company exceeded pollution limits throughout the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024. In total, emissions were 49.3 tons above the permitted level.
It was established that 4.9 tons of pollutants were emitted into the atmosphere without permission. In this regard, administrative proceedings were initiated against Tengizchevroil LLP by a prosecutor's order. The court imposed a fine, the decision has come into legal force,the office stated.
