In prisons in Almaty, Kostanay, and Jetisu regions, 10 religious radicals were preparing a terrorist attack and recruiting potential terrorists, Orda.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan's National Security Committee.
The National Security Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Almaty Region Prosecutor's Office prevented the extremists from implementing this plan.
One prisoner was preparing the attack, while the others were promoting terrorism and recruiting new supporters.
Their accomplice, who was on probation control, was detained in Almaty.
During searches at penal institutions, smartphones, bladed weapons, and other material evidence were seized, The National Security Committee reported.

One of the suspects is already serving a sentence for extremist activity; the others were convicted of homicide, robbery, and theft.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan: 255 “Act of Terrorism,” 256 “Propaganda of Terrorism or Public Calls to Commit an act of Terrorism," and 259 “Recruitment or Training or Arming of Persons for The Purpose of Organizing Terrorist or Extremist Activity."
