Last month, he was sentenced to five years of restricted freedom, including a ban on using social media, Orda.kz reports.
On May 1, a message appeared on the Qaznews24 pages announcing that its creator, Temirlan Yensebek, would no longer be involved with the project.
Today is the moment when Temirlan leaves the project. Completely. He no longer participates in editorial work, does not have access to accounts, does not make decisions,
the post says.
On April 11, the Nauryzbay District Court of Almaty found Yensebek guilty of inciting ethnic discord and sentenced him to five years of restricted freedom.
The court also banned him from giving interviews, using social media, receiving grants, holding offline and online meetings, and appearing on air.
Temirlan's wish was for Qaznews24 to continue its work. For the voice of satire not to fall silent. And for freedom of speech, no matter how little of it remains, to still live in our country,
the Qaznews24 statement says.
The reason for Yensebek’s arrest and trial was a post on Qaznews24’s Instagram account concerning Tina Kandelaki’s negative comments about Kazakhstan, accompanied by the controversial song “Yo, Orystar.”
