Taraz: Court Hands Down Sentence in Assault Case Involving Minors

In Taraz, three teenagers who assaulted a 12-year-old girl were sentenced, reports an Orda.kz correspondent.
On June 16, the specialized inter-district criminal court of the Jambyl region announced the verdict against three minors. They were found guilty under Articles 120 and 121 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and sentenced to seven years and eight months of imprisonment each.
Until they reach adulthood, they will serve their sentences in a juvenile colony.
Six months ago, the victim's mother contacted the editorial office of Orda.kz. According to the woman, the neighboring teenagers sexually assaulted her daughter and filmed it. A police statement did not lead to their detention.
After the story became public, lawyer Aliya Arzymbetova joined the case. In court, she represented the interests of the victim's family. The schoolgirl's mother thanked journalists for their help.
At the time of the crime, the teenagers were between 14 and 16 years old. The trial lasted seven months.
