U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that recent negotiations had brought hope for ending the war, Orda.kz reports.
However, the White House later clarified that it was not Trump who personally spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin but National Security Advisor Steve Witkoff.
We had very good and productive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday, and there is a very high good chance that this terrible, bloody war can finally come to an end,Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Concern Over Encircled Ukrainian Troops
Trump also expressed deep concern over the fate of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers who are reportedly surrounded by Russian forces.
I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not see since World War II,Trump said.
