Presidents Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan and Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan met in Dushanbe on July 8–9 during Japarov’s state visit to Tajikistan, invited by Rahmon, Orda.kz reports.
The agenda included high-level discussions between the presidents, meetings with Tajik parliamentary speakers, the prime minister, and participation in an economic and investment forum, as well as a cultural event titled "Eternal Friendship."
These talks build on earlier efforts to settle a long-standing border dispute. On March 13, Rahmon and Japarov previously signed a treaty in Bishkek resolving key portions of the Kyrgyz–Tajik border following intense clashes in 2021 and 2022.
At the conclusion of these latest meetings, the leaders signed:
- A joint presidential statement
- A treaty on confidence-building measures
- An agreement to establish an Intergovernmental Council
- And a series of sector-specific agreements (covering areas such as geodesy, tourism, environment, media, academia, labor, public service, supply chains, and more—see list above)
