Shymkent: District Police Chief and Subordinate Detained on Bribery Charges
In Shymkent, the head of the Turan District Police Department and an officer from the operational unit were detained on suspicion of accepting a bribe to reclassify a criminal case, according to lawyer Talgat Yesimov, Orda.kz reports.
The arrest was carried out by National Security Committee (KNB) officers on Aug. 20, 2025, around 14:00. The case is being investigated by the agency's Anti-Corruption Service under Part 2 of Article 366 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code (“Receiving a bribe”).
This is the first time in Shymkent’s history and practice that a district police chief has been detained. It shows the new anti-corruption service under the KNB is working on a completely new level, and the results will be significant,Yesimov said.
