Shandong Energy Group to Build Coal Gas Plant in Kazakhstan

The Chinese company Shandong Energy Group Co plans to build a coal gasification facility in Kazakhstan’s Qaraganda region, Orda.kz reports.
The plant is expected to create around 1,500 permanent jobs.
The announcement followed a meeting on June 16 between Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Li Wei, Chair of the Board of Shandong Energy Group. According to the government press service, the sides discussed the construction of a coal chemical complex with a projected output of two billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The government emphasized that the project would support industrial diversification and strengthen the country’s export potential. The initiative is also expected to introduce new technologies and boost the coal chemical sector in Kazakhstan.
Shandong Energy Group is among China’s largest energy companies and leads in the production of coal-based chemical products such as urea and methanol.
The corporation operates over 600 subsidiaries and has a presence in 17 countries.
