Shaimardanov Appointed Vice Minister After Leading Strategic Planning Agency

The new vice minister previously served as chair of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports with reference to the government press service.
Zhandos Shaimardanov was born in the East Kazakhstan region. He graduated from the University of York in the UK and IE University in Spain. He has held key positions in quasi-state companies.
He began his career as a chief expert at the Ministry of Economy and Planning. His roles included manager at JSC National Welfare Fund Samruq-Qazyna, managing director at JSC National Managing Holding Baiterek, chair of the board at JSC QazTech Ventures, and director of the monetary policy department at the National Bank.
In 2022, he was appointed head of the Bureau of National Statistics under the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms. From 2023 to 2025, he served as chair of the agency.
Interestingly, in September 2023, Shaimardanov replaced Aset Irgaliyev as head of the agency. A year and a half later, they swapped positions.
